Subway Ride
(by Heather L. Miller/ illus. by Sue Rama, Charlesbridge $15.95 Score:)

Urban kids will relate to the lively pace of this subway ride told in verse. A glossary at the end tells about subways in ten cities around the world. The glossary feels as if it is intended for an older audience, but that said, this is a book young kids will relate to as they see the typical sights underground. 4 & up.

Bartholomew Bear, Five Toddler Tales
(by Virginia Miller, Candlewick $14.99 Score:) What could be better than one Bartholomew & George tale? Five, of course! Reissued in an anthology that covers many toddler-typical issues such as bedtime, eating dinner, using the potty, being gentle, and feeling loved, even when they are being totally negative. This is too big for toddlers to handle solo, but it's a treasure for laptime or bedtime. Also new and fun, Where Is Little Black Kitten? 2 & up.

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 2003.
