Hot Wheels RC Nitro Speeders
(Mattel $27.99 Score:)

"Amazingly fast" for such a small rc car was the uniform reaction the RC Nitro Speeders. Comes with it's own carrying case that also serves as the charger and remote control. We tested the Mustang, but there are other vehicles in this micro line of racers including a Chevy Camero and a Ford Fiesta.  We would be careful with these cars around pets that may mistake them for a snack!

Rokenbok Monorail Building System
(Rokenbok Toy Co. $$149 Score:)

The Monorail is the big news this year in Rokenbok. This open-ended construction/remote control vehicle setting just got even better. "It's awesome!" our seven and 10 year-old testers said. You can add several R/C vehicles to the mix. This innovative system is expensive, but offers greater interest and challenge than other train or car sets we've seen. Will work with original sets. 6 & up with adult assistance. Takes 3 AA batteries.

2006 Award
(Kid Galaxy $24.99 Score:) These snappy vehicles run on land and water! With two button full-function radio control, these are less complex than some of the larger RCís and have the added fun of float-ablilty. Very cool.

Age: Early School Years. Award Year: 2006.

2008 Award
Bump n Chuck R/C Bumper Cars
(Kid Galaxy $35 Score:) Despite the dubious name, we all stopped and played with these fun vehicles. Your set comes with two radio controllers and two bumper cars with figures. Drive your vehicle defensively or go for it. If you bump your opponent his play figure pops out! The vehicles are easy to manipulate and drive forward, reverse, left and right. 5 & up. Also good fun, Scoop 'n' Shoot R/C Basketball ($40), two basketball shoe vehicles that scoop up small basketballs in the front end of the shoes and shoot a ball into the two backboards with nets. A bit harder to manipulate successfully than the Bumper cars. 7 & up.

Age: Early School Years,Later School Years. Award Year: 2008.
