Pigzup!
(Blue Orange Games $19.98 Score:)

Put your pigzup when you are the first to stack the pigs. Sound easy? Not really. The game begins with players turning their cards over. As soon as two have matching cards they race to be the first to stack the number on the card and put their hands up and holler Pigsup! But wait—it’s not that easy. You have to roll a die and follow the way you stack ‘em. You may have to do it with your two index fingers, with one hand or by the pig’s felt ears. A quick 10-minute game for 2-4 players. They say 4 & up.

Pretend & Play Calculator Cash Register
(Learning Resources $49.95 Score:) A solar-powered register comes loaded with working calculator and digital display, plus play money and a credit card. A marvelous tool for pretend and math skills. Says 3 & up but this is a solid choice for school-aged kids who are learning to use a calculator. Expensive but better made than any other. Also recommended, Talking Scanner ($16.95) has barcode stickers for digital read-outs. Takes practice to make it work. SNAP INFO: Learning to count and make change is a lot more fun with a toy register. This one is solar-powered with working calculator and digital display. It comes loaded with play money and a credit card. Fun for pretend and math skills. Adding real coins is even better! This is a solid choice for school-aged kids learning to use a calculator. Also interesting: a Talking Scanner ($16.95) with barcode stickers to add to products for digital read-outs with or without sound. But be forewarned: it takes practice to get the scanner's sound to work.

Lace and Link Numbers
(Lauri $14.99 Score:) Kids practice sequencing with these classic rubber numerals that fit into puzzle frames that link together. Lacing and handling the 4" numerals helps reinforce their shapes in a tactile way. For many children, before they can write or recall them with ease, "feeling" the numerals helps them remember the direction, shape and name of these sometimes confusing symbols. 4-7

Lets Tackle Math Game
(Learning Resources $44.95 Score:) Keep in mind that beginners need concrete materials to count before they learn the facts in rapid-fire fashion. Now in our house we did this with chocolate (which was also fun, but fattening!) Here, you get 252 total play pieces (108 bugs: grasshoppers, beetles dragonflies, bumble bees, spiders and caterpillars) plus 72 frogs and worms to sort by color, shape and size. The kit also comes with an activity book with 48 activities and a sorting tray. Kids love playing with these pieces as their working on their math skills. They'll also use them for dramatic play. Much more fun than flash cards! The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab.
