2011 Award
Manhattan Toy Puppet Playhouse Theater
(Manhattan Toy $64.99 Score:)

A purple and yellow tent that looks like an oversized wizard's hat. Kids can get into the tent through a roll up portion of the tent that can stay open with Velcro. We love the gold gossamer fabric that is used for the puppet theater curtain and as trim. Assembly is required but not overly complicated.  Great to pair with their wonderful line of puppets.  Puppets are a great way to build your child's storytelling skills and give them an opportunity to act out both pretend scenarios, and perhaps most importantly issues that they are working through.

Age: Preschool, Early School Years. Award Year: 2011. Click here to purchase the product on Amazon.com.

2010 Award
My Take Along Puppet Theater
(Playmobil $62.50 Score:)

Get the tickets ready - the show is about to begin! This cleverly designed theater (12.6" X 10") comes with slide-in settings for outdoor and indoor dramas. There are seven play figures: two children, four adults, and an alligator.  The figures are moved about directly from backstage. These are not marionettes or rod puppets. There are also trees, mushrooms, and other props for dressing up the set. Other Playmobil figures and props can be added to productions. Note: We think the stage would be a great setting for casts of finger puppets. Check out Manhattan Toy for some amazing sets of animals, storybook characters, and modern day finger puppets. The theater includes is a fun sound effects machine with applause, laughter and four different melodies. At the end of the show all the props and people fit in the carrying case for neat storage. This will make a memorable gift and inspire dramatic play. Kids can play their own stories or replay classic tales they know in their own language. That is what makes this kind of play so helpful in developing language and the ability to tell a story...with a beginning, middle and end. Important skills for reading comprehension as well as communication skills. The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab.

Age: Preschool, Early School Years. Award Year: 2010. Click here to purchase the product on Amazon.com.

Award
Floor Standing Puppet Theater
(Alex $59.99 Score:) Puppet stages are great fun for the whole family. At first you may be the main performer but soon enough your child will want you to be the audience. Try out familiar stories and then make up your own. Kids often express themselves more openly when they use puppets-- so be a careful listener. You may be surprised by what you hear. This stage from Alex is smaller than their larger playhouses that also have puppet stages. Comes with a clock (for show time) and a chalk board for adding important info about the show.

Age: Preschool,Early School Years. Award Year: .
