Mudpuppy Dog Days Jumbo Puzzle
(Mudpuppy Press $14.99 Score:)

A jumbo floor puzzle with 25 big pieces and a clear picture of dogs in the park. Lots of dogs! This will appeal to kids who love pooches. It's a lively scene with lots to talk about once it is complete. It's marked for 2 and up. Although there are no small parts to choke on, we think this is not something most young twos are ready to do. That said, it's a great puzzle to introduce to older twos and threes who are ready to move on from simpler puzzles. For beginners, work along with them, giving them help with building the frames and looking at the box to find the pieces that obviously go together.

Age: Toddlers, Preschool. Award Year: 2015.

Marked for 4 & up and may be better choice for slightly older kids or with lots of help for younger children.

2015 Award
Mudpuppy Dinosaur 63 Piece Puzzle
(Mudpuppy Press $14.95 Score:)

A challenging 63-piece puzzle that will turn into a 18 X 14 inch picture of multiple dinos in a green world. There is no frame, so kids will need some strategies for finding the straight edged pieces to build the frame. Since the dinos are intertwined, they will need the box for reference as they work their way through. This is marked 4 and up, but we think it will be a better choice for older dino lovers.

Age: Preschool, Early School Years. Award Year: 2015.

Hape Knob Puzzles
(HaPe $14 Score:)

With easy-to-grab wooden knobs, this puzzle with colorful geometric shapes is a great choice for beginners. Hape also does many animal puzzles that feature zoo and farm animals with the easy to lift knobs. These are great choices for small hands as they learn to turn the pieces and fit them into the cut out shape. Bright graphics and smooth pieces make this a good choice for older 2's and 3's. This kind of puzzle challenges their visual skills as well as dexterity.

Begin Again Dinosaur Skeleton Puzzle
(Begin again $20 Score:)

Such a clever two-sided wooden T-Rex puzzle! An eleven-piece dino fits into the puzzle box along with eight background pieces. On one side the T-rex's bones are shown; on the reverse the bones go under cover. It's tricky, but we even got the dino to stand up after it was all put together. Marked 3 & up, we think this will work better for kids who are a bit older.
