Playskool Sesame Street School Bus
(Hasbro $14.99 Score:)

Seems the school bus has shrunk a little, but it's still one of those perennial favorites. This season it has been updated for the Sesame Street gang. But it only comes with two characters, Count Von Count is the driver and Elmo is there with his backpack. If you want more passengers, that will be extra, please. It can hold three figures and since loading and unloading passengers is so much a part of the fun, we suggest you bring them home with the bus. Passengers can get on through the door or the open roof top. To open the door, press the purple button on the hood. No batteries needed for this roll and play vehicle. They say 18 months & up, we think it will be enjoyed more by 2's and up. The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab.

2011 Award
Little People Wheelies Zig the Big Rig
(Fisher-Price $29.99 Score:)

Zig is a true toddler vehicle. It does more than just roll about and yet it's not too complicated for toddlers to  operate. Zig is a particularly friendly truck--he talks, makes some sounds and his face moves when activated (but not in a creepy way).  What our testers loved about it was the way the side of the truck opens and launches the little Wheelie car that comes with Zig. (You can buy more Wheelies separately). This motion is easy to activate- and is just right for toddlers who love making things happen again and again. Zig is chunky and moves around under your child's power (we like that aspect of it as well).  A sturdy choice for toddlers that has just the right amount of bells and whistles.

2011 Award
Kid O Tip Truck
(Kid O $15 Score:)

Designed for toddlers, this sleek plastic Tip Truck is easy to gasp and roll. It has a working hinged bed that younger kids will probably not figure out or be able to use. That said, it's a handsome truck for beginners. Available in red, blue and green. Also from the same company, see the Kid O Car, a perfect first car for active play and pretend.

2011 Award
Kid O Go Car
(Kid O $10 Score:) Sleek with a smooth futuristic look, this shiny plastic car has built in handle that is just right for small toddler hands to grip. It's bigger than the miniature vehicles with dangerous small parts. A much better choice for younger kids who will love scooting this around chair legs, under tables and wherever else they go "driving." Available in red, green and aqua blue. Also nice, from the same company a red and white Tip Truck. 1 & up.
