2014 Awards
Girls On the Move Ballerina
(North American Bear Co. $29.99 Score:)

14-inches tall and totally poseable, you can bring this home in peachy flesh tones with blonde or brunette hair made of felt. Best of all the doll's arms and legs can be bent into all formal ballet positions and then some, so young dancers can play at being the ballet teacher and put their doll through her paces. Make her do plies, pirouettes and grand jetes! The Velcro waisted tutu comes off, but her leotard and slippers do not. 3 & up

2013 Award
Bunnies by the Bay Big Friend Skipit
(Bunnies By the Bay $32 Score:)

Skipit is a completely huggable dog done in soft short cream with licks of cocoa around his face, his paws and down his back. Deliciously cozy. A portion of the proceeds from this line goes to charities that support orphans and abandoned children around the world.  When we first received him, he shed some of his hair so we would not recommend him for a child under 3.

Just right for strolls with your child's favorite doll or huggable. Our testers love that this stroller looks like the real thing including a seatbelt for making sure your baby is safe. It's designed for baby dolls 12" to 17" tall. You'll love that it's lightweight and folds. Giving kids doll accessories is a wonderful way to extend the play opportunities. 2013 Awards
Groovy Girls Princess Ariana
(Manhattan Toy $20 Score:)

One of several new princess dolls in the Groovy Girls collection. We liked them all, but somehow the happy looking dark-haired princess seemed most refreshing.  Like all Groovy Girls she is soft and safe and totally huggable and lovable.

Corolle Les Cheries Camille Ballerina Doll
(Corolle $44.99 Score:)

If you have an aspiring ballerina in your midst, this is a very special 13" doll to bring home. Camille's all vinyl body is dressed in a beautiful tutu, tights and ballet slippers.   Her long hair is drawn back with a head band.  She has posable arms and legs -- and has the signature Corolle vanilla scent.   For 2013, she also comes in a super cute outfit for going to university, Camille a l'Universite.

2014 Awards
Corolle Les Cheries Chloe Salon de The Doll
(Corolle $58 Score:)

New for 2014,  Chloe is ready to go out  dressed in a pink shirt and pants, topped with a grey jacket and accessorized as if she went to fashion week in Paris! She carries a tassel-trimmed bag and matching oxford-style shoes. What we love about this collection of 13" fashion dolls is that they celebrate girls. The clothes give a nod to trends but in completely age appropriate styles. Girls will also love her long hair, sweet (vinyl) face and vanilla scent. Still recommended last year's Chloe Au Palais Royal  with a very trendy faux fur wrap (on top of her pink party dress) and leopard print ballet flats and purse. Chloe is also available in a ballerina outfit.

2013 Award
Big Hugs Elmo
(Hasbro $59.99 Score:)

Elmo is back this year and ready to give your child a big hug. This oversized version asks for hugs, tighter hugs and then says "too tight." Preschoolers will love the hugs. He encourages kids to pretend. Some of the choices seem off..."let's pretend to be rabbits...let's pretend to be astronauts"...not two things that jump to mind as the most interesting. Do toddlers/preschoolers even know what an astronaut is anymore? The body is a blend of soft red fur and a hard core (where the batteries are stored). The arms do bend so that they can be placed around a neck for a proper hug.  You will feel the mechanism in the arms - the equivalent of doll bones?  Elmo says over 50 phrases, sings songs and best of all, he goes to sleep after a pretty cute bedtime routine. Not clear whether Elmo will be as popular this year given the scandal, but as a straight forward novelty doll, he is pretty cute.

2013 Award
North American Bear Little Princess Happy Birthday
(North American Bear Co. $24.99 Score:)

Such a deliciously soft and cuddly 14-inch doll. She wears a pink velour dress with satin binding and a birthday cupcakes on the bodice and on her hot pink shoes. Her clothes are not removable, though she is machine washable. Her body is silky to the touch satin. Her ribbons are also permanently in place and have a different texture of grosgrain. Her features are stitched-on, making her safe enough for the youngest child. You can bring her home with blond or brunette velour "hair."

Age: Preschool. Award Year: 2013. Click here to purchase the product on Amazon.com.
