Important Advisory:

We are now requiring companies to provide us with documentation that their products have been tested by an independent lab for phthalates and lead.
Please click here for submission requirements for new products. However, as we are not a lab, we will not be independently verifying those results. Also, with the exception of the 2008 Platinum Toy Awards, toys submitted for review prior to January 2008 were not tested for lead.

Blue Chip Award Winners: Infants
  At Quiet OClock

( Sally Rogers, Round River $$8.98$ ) These lullabies are just the ticket for a quiet time-whatever the hour might be. Accompanied by guitar, dulcimer, or piano, this wonderful collection of traditional and original lullabies by award-winning vocalist Sally Rogers is still our favorite! Age: Infant, Toddler, Preschool. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Blue Chip Award

  Babys First Blocks

( Fisher-Price $$12.99$ ) Technically this is a shape-sorter, but the 10 blocks will be used to fill, spill and throw long before the baby can fit them into the three-place shape-sorter lid of the container. Put the lid away for now. A no gimmick classic that is neither complicated nor expensive. We much preferred this toy when it only had three shapes (circle, square and triangle)--the addition of the other shapes and more openings makes this less elegant and user friendly...but still a good basic toy. This is a classic for talking together and independent looking.SNAP INFO: This little cube shaped board book fits in baby's hand and includes clear photos of familiar objects.   Bendy Beeper

( Sassy $$4.99$ ) Baby will soon be able to grasp the bendy pieces, but even before then, this is a good choice for tracking. Small ball at one end twirls with an easy touch and a quiet squeaker will attract baby’s attention. Still top rated, Circle Rattle ($3.99 1⁄2). Also good for early tracking games, this colorful ring has a spotted ball, interesting textures, and smaller rings that clack. So there’s a lot to look at, feel, and last but not least, chew on. A classic shape reintroduced in new colors. (800) 323-6336. Age: Infant. Phone: (800) 323-6336. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award 2007 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Blue Chip Award

  Deluxe Gymini 3-D Activity Gym

( Tiny Love $$50$ ) This play mat remains our favorite with two arches and dangly toys baby can gaze and eventually bat at. It gets high marks for keeping baby entertained. We prefer this design to the classic plastic activity gyms. Available in high-contrast black, white, and red version. Not for babies who are beginning to pull themselves up. Deluxe version is slightly larger.SNAP INFO: This soft fabric playmat with dangly toys on soft arches comes in a variety of choices. For bold visual graphics select the black. white and red version. Easy to fold and carry along, the deluxe version is larger than most, a plus for bigger babies who may not be on the move, but ready to reach out and activate things. Like all playmats, this is to be used only with supervision and is not intended for babies who are pulling themselves up. Adaptation: Babies stop noticing toys that are always in their sight- just as you stop noticing a vase that's always in the same place. Change the soft danglies positions or substitute others to add visual interest. Age: Infant. Phone: (800) 843-6292. Fun for stacking, knocking down, and tossing.SNAP:These have been scaled down in size and are easier to grab than the originals. The set of four fabric blocks has interesting texture and patterns and a quiet sound in each block.
