2006 Award
Twenty-One Elephants and Still Standing
( by April Jones Prince/illus. by Francois Roca, Houghton Mifflin $16 Score: ) We had a similar story based on true events last year. In that version the child storyteller is at the center of the story and longs to go on the newly built Brooklyn Bridge. In this one, itís P.T. Barnum who comes up with the solution. Either way, itís a great story and speaks to the fears people have of most new things. 7 & up.
