eeBoo Quantum Koalas Create A Story Cards
(eeBoo $13.99)
Artist Saxton Freymann has created a new set of witty story cards that will spark storytelling ideas for children and parents to share. Each card has a lively action illustration that lends itself to a moment of drama for kids to tell about in their own words. The instructions suggest various ways you and your child can share the fun. Have one child select a card and begin a story, then other players pick a card and add a new twist to the story. Play it as a Goofy Memory game having each player repeat what the previous person said and then add to it. Or play a sequencing game: the child draws cards and tells a story putting the cards in a line; then retell the whole story using the images as prompts. Or try the game with kids picking 7 or 8 cards and giving them to the adult who tells a story ( with or without the child’s help) putting the cards down as it’s told. Then, have kids retell your story, adding to it or not. It’s an entertaining and fun way for kids to discover-by-doing how stories are created. A great way to help build on the big idea that stories have a beginning, middle, and end. It’s also a good way to build listening and exercise memory skills. All of this, as they build their vocabulary and understanding of sequencing. All are important literacy skills (beyond learning letter sounds) that help kids become readers and writers.
