Peaceable Kingdom Math Sandwich Game

(Mindware $25.95) Pretend play plus math adds up to a game for first and second graders. Math Sandwich comes with 12 math menu cards, a pad of guest checks, sandwich wrappers, and 100 felt sandwich fillings. Customers choose the sandwich they want and the server writes the name of the person ordering. Server puts the number of pieces of each ingredient in the sandwich wrapper and adds the points from the menu cards as they add the ingredients. We think players will dream up their own rules and ways of making this pretend game work. The ingredients are colorful and tempting props for pretend and an appealing way to make the purpose of math in navigating the world more understandable. Note, the game is marked 3 and up, but threes will use the playing pieces strictly for pretend sandwich making. The math part of this game and writing people’s names and “charges” is far more appropriate for early school age kids.
